Poker's popularity has even reached the stars, literally. Hollywood stars today are playing actively in prestigious poker tournaments, and they even have their own show. Some of their shows are Bravo's Celebrity Poker Showdown, Celebrity Poker Club, Ultimate Poker Showdown, and World Poker Tour.
Joining bestfriends Ben Affleck and Matt Damon in the list of celebrity poker players are Toby Maguire, James Woods, Al Alvarez and many more. Because of celebrity poker's popularity, Channel 4 brought Late Night Poker in 2005.
Some common people dream of playing in poker tournaments, especially in those televised ones just to grab attention. This makes you think, how much more attention do these celebrities want that they enter the world of poker? Psychologists have analyzed and they have some answers to this. They say that Shaquille O'neal, Paris Hilton and the celebrities who play at poker tables, do not all clamor for more attention. Rather, they enjoy the other benefits poker has to offer.
We all know that poker is challenging, that is why many are hooked to it, celebrity or not. But why would celebrities want challenge? Don't they have enough excitement in their life?
For celebrities, all those activities they participate in, parties and taping, tend to become linear eventually, however much these activities would sound fun to us. It is also believed that celebrities love the idea that they work really hard for the money in playing poker. Non-players think that it is easy to earn big at poker, but what these non-poker players do not realize that it is equally easy to lose money in poker. Celebrities share the same joy or fulfillment in earning money by working hard for it. This is a fulfillment they rarely experience because sometimes they just need to pose for a magazine, and money is handed to them.
